Application Kit for systematic check of data compliance and output systems in a standardised pre-media and print workflow
The Altona Test Suite is a standard test tool used by more than two thousand print shops and media companies. The ATS 2.0 Application Kit from bvdm is another important contribution to the international application and development of process standardization according to ISO 12647.
The Altona Test Suite was first released in 2004, was extended in 2005 and in 2013 was published as a version 2.0 in a completely revised edition including several additional web-press references. The primary function of ATS2 is to monitor PDF/X compliance and colour accuracy of all software and hardware components in a PDF/X workflow from premedia to the print run. The extended application kit will be supplemented with updates covering the new printing environments „PSO Coated v3“ (FOGRA51) and „PSO Uncoated v3 (FOGRA52)“ for ISO 12647-2:2013.
Do you already possess an Altona Test Suite 2.0 2013? That’s why you only need an Update 2016? Please, click here!
The extended Application Kit comprises reference data files for application tests, reference prints (offset) produced according to ISO 12647-2:2004/Amd1:2007 and -2:2013:Amd1 (pending), a comprehensive documentation in English and German and the standard printing conditions according to ISO 12647 (characterisation data and ICC profiles). The PDF/X data files of Altona Test Suite 2.0 are employed for the evaluation of digital output systems such as proofing solutions, CtP systems, conventional and digital printing systems.
The Altona Test Suite 2.0 Application Kit comprises eight basic versions of Altona Test Suite reference data files (A3 test forms):
- ATS 2.0 Measure (including Update 2016*)
- ATS 2.0 Visual (including Update 2016*)
- ATS 2.0 Technical 1
- ATS 2.0 Technical 2 (since 2013)
- ATS 2.0 roman16-1 (since 2013, Update 2016*)
- ATS 2.0 roman16-2 (since 2013, Update 2016*)
- ATS 2.0 roman16-3 (since 2013, Update 2016*)
- ATS 2.0 roman16-4 (since 2013, Update 2016*)
The four test forms “ATS 2.0 roman16” comprise all “roman16 bvdm Reference Images”. They serve for a comprehensive visual and colorimetric evaluation of the complete colour space, of primary, secondary and tertiary colours, skin and hairtones, gradients, structure and detail reproduction.
Like “ATS 2.0 Measure” and. “ATS 2.0 Visual”, the test forms “ATS 2.0 roman16” are provided in different standard printing conditions for offset printing, coldset offset printing (newspaper) and gravure publication printing.
The test form „Technical 2“, introduced in 2013, serves for the check of complex page layouts including transparencies and layers, which are frequently used by designers today (ISO 15930-7:2010,PDF/X-4). This is the systematic continuation from the existing “Technical 1” (ISO 15930-6:2003, PDF/X-3, overprints, fonts). The comprehensive and very sophisticated test form “Technical 2” comprises e.g. selected images and picture details as well as specially programmed colour patches, which allow the systematic check of rendering of transparencies and layers in output systems (digital proofing systems, CtP RIPs). The Altona Test Suite 2.0 Application Kit is a joint project of German Printing and Media Industries Federation (bvdm), Berlin, European Color Initiative (ECI), Berlin, Fogra Graphic Technology Research Association, Munich and of Ugra, St. Gallen. Printers, manufacturers of materials and systems (such as paper, printing machines) made profound contributions to the development of the Application Kit as project partners. Project management and editor: bvdm.
*) As of now sale at a reduced price
The reason for the price reduction is, that some of the FOGRA51 update reference prints enclosed (envelope No. 6) may exceed the threshold of acceptance (DeltaE = 5) through a “dark reaction” occurred unexpectedly in Magenta ink. Who will discover such copies, please, do not longer use them for visual and colorimetric match with those digital proof prints and offset prints which you will have been generated from the PDF/X-4 test form files. In general, reference prints should not be regarded as certified colour charts/samples, most notably if they were stored for a long time, even in light- and dust-safe envelopes.
